McAdenville Baptist Church
Leaders & Staff
We are very proud of our church leaders & staff members. Below is just a little information about some of them.
Walt Griggs, Pastor (since 2011)
Walt served in the US Air Force from 1966-1970. He then worked on the City of Gastonia police force where he was promoted to Commander of Vice and Narcotics and retired as Patrol Captain in 1998. That same year Walt was ordained into the ministry. He has been married to his wife, Nan, for 44 years. They have two sons and three grandchildren. Walt says that it is his desire that everything he says and does brings honor to Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
Danny Elmore, Music Director
When Danny was 18 years old he was born into the family of God when he accepted Christ at South Marietta Baptist. The pastor was Richard Hicks. He encouraged him to seek God's will for his life. Rev. Hoyle Alexander and Wayne Johnston were also helpful in mentoring him as he began serving the Lord in youth ministry. Danny attended Gardner-Webb College (now University) and in 1983 he married his wife, Gail. After living in Boiling Springs for a year, they returned to Gastonia in 1984. In 1996, God led him to a new path of ministry: Music! After serving at three other churches the Lord has led him to this work. His prayers are that He will bless this place with a thriving ministry: A ministry that faithfully presents the gospel truth to all who seek to know our Lord. May he be a blessing to you as you have already been a blessing to Gail and himself.
Beckie Pennell, Church Secretary
Beckie is a lifelong member of McAdenville Baptist Church, and she loves it dearly. She retired after teaching elementary and middle school. After three years of retirement, she felt the call to serve in another capacity and now is the church’s secretary. Beckie’s family consists of a daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren who are her joy. “The most important thing in life is to know Jesus Christ and to serve Him.” Beckie loves to read, to watch baseball, and to listen to music.
Dick Roberts, Deacon
I was born September 12th 1935 in McAdenville just across the road and up the hill from the church. My mother brought me to church when I was just 2 weeks old and I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in March of 1949 at the age of 14. When I was 22 I was elected as a deacon for the first time and have continued to serve on the deacon board for over 55 years. I have served as a lay minister for 52 years. I love McAdenville Baptist Church and every member. As long as God will allow me, I will serve Him and the church. If I can be of service to any member, please feel free to call me! It is a privilege and an honor to serve you.
